I was born far away in eastern Québec in a small French-speaking town called
Rimouski. All my younger life, I was a car freak. I wanted to be a car designer
and I got into drums by accident at the age of 13. My mom's a professional
Soprano singer and she teaches as well.
One day I walked into my mom's music school to pick her up for lunch and had to
wait few minutes because she wasn't finished with a student yet. So I wandered
around and walked in a room were there was a drum kit. I sat on the stool and
played a beat! I still remember the ''HELL YEAH!!'' feeling...then my mom
promptly walked in the room and said, "Julien, was it you playing? It
sounded good!! Do you want to take lessons?"
The next week I was taking my first drums lessons. The next month I was getting my first drum kit and few months
after I was jamming' with the town's old blues cats. Shortly after I needed
some more 'Rock' in my life and quit the lessons to form my very first high
school band named Bloody Nose.
Not long after, (at 14) I joined a Band called XLARGE, a bunch of local
punkers. That band shortly became the most successful band out of Rimouski.
Touring the whole country few times supporting two full-length recordings
-LIVING LARGE (2112/cargo) in 1997 and RUNNING OUT OF TIME (Moebius/Outside) in
2000.
Meanwhile I joined a Montreal based band called RESET in 2000 for few tours in
The US and Canada (Vans Warped Tour 2000 to name one). I moved to Montreal in
2002 and played in many punk, blues and funk bands, doing the province's blues
festival ring and the club circuit.
In early 2003 I decided that it would be interesting to try to get in the
session world and started to spread the word to my musician friends as well as
gigging anytime, anywhere for any kind of artist. It paid off in the fall of 2003 when I got called for a gig with
Melissa Auf der Maur (formerly with HOLE and SMASHING PUMPKINS). I quickly
jumped on the road and toured all over the world (Europe, North America and
Asia) supporting Melissa's debut album AUF DER MAUR (Capitol).
In early 2005, Atom Willard (The
Offspring/ Rocket from the Crypt/ Angels and AirwaVes) recommended me
for some gigs he couldn't do in the Los Angeles area. So I spent the winter/spring
there working with producer Bob Marlette (Sheryl Crow, Default, Black Sabbath
etc) recording drum tracks at the renowned A&M studios (now called Henson
Recordings). Among the artists is a
band featuring John5 (formerly from Marilyn
Manson) Called LOSER. Their Debut album ''JUST LIKE YOU'' (Def
jam/island) is out May the 9th 2006. I
also tracked for a young new artist named Megan McCauley as well as playing
live for her in many Radio shows across the USA. Her debut album "Wind-Up" should be out in the fall
of 2006.
In October of 2005 I joined the band "THE STILLS". Their Debut
album ''Logic Will Break Your Heart''
(Vice/Atlantic) had many hit singles across the planet. The new album
from the Band is due for release May 9, 2006 and is called ''WITHOUT
FEATHERS''. It's featuring a whole new musical direction and a completely
reinvented sound!
Touring starts March 2006 and will go on for more than a year- come see THE
STILLS soon!
