Eric Paul was born and raised in Victoria, British
Columbia where he started his musical career at the age of 13, touring Canada
and opening for some of the country's finest acts. At the age of 16, Eric
joined Canadian rock band Big Sugar for the first of two stints he would have
with the group.
After a few years of soul searching, Eric decided that in order to continue his
career as a drummer he would have to make a move from the island.
In September of 2001, he did just that by driving across the country to Toronto
with his drums and just a few bucks in his pocket. After a few months of
getting settled, Eric linked up with long-time friend Gordie Johnson and
started a series of jam sessions, which led to him rejoining Big Sugar in late
2001.
Eric recorded on the band's last record "Hit And Run" and toured
extensively for the better part of three years before the band parted ways in
2004. A few months later Eric was invited to join Hawksley Workman's band,
which led to touring Europe, Canada, and the U.S. In the spring of 2005, he decided to leave the Hawksley Workman
project to pursue some other opportunities.
In the fall of 2005, Eric
joined former roommate, Tavis Stanley, and become a member of the band
Thornley, which is currently touring and working on their second album. Eric
has also played with Alannah Myles, Jeff Healey, Martha and the Muffins, the
Parachute Club, Paul Reddick and the Sidemen, and Truth and Rights, who have
been nominated for Best Reggae Album at this year's upcoming Juno Awards. Eric is a Yamaha drum and Sabian cymbal
endorsee and strongly believes that the products they make have helped him
develop his sound and craft.
