Mike
Herriott is the picture of versatility. Trumpet is his main
instrument but he has also appeared on stage and in the studio playing acoustic
jazz bass and trombone. Having held positions in a number of orchestras and won
numerous competitions for his classical playing, he is also widely in demand as
a jazz player and big band lead trumpeter.
With three recordings as leader under his belt, Mike has
appeared on dozens of recordings ranging from orchestral to jazz to country,
and has television and movie credits to his name. He has toured extensively and
has appeared at every major Canadian jazz festival. Performance credits include
Maynard Ferguson, Hugh Fraser, The Moody Blues, Rob McConnell, Guido Basso,
Tommy Banks, Chucho Valdez, and Sir Yehudi Menuhin.
Mike has three shows designed for pops orchestras which he
has performed across Canada: "Pops Goes the Trumpet" - a journey
through all the most popular trumpet music, classical, jazz, and pop; "Gettin'
Dizzy" - a tribute to the greatest swinging trumpeters of our time; and,
for younger audiences, "I Always Wanted to Play the Trumpet" - Mike
leads the listeners through the musical story of how he became a trumpeter!
Mike Herriott currently serves on faculty for the Banff
Centre's Jazz Orchestra Workshop, CYMC Orchestral Program, IMC Jazz Camp, and
has presented masterclasses and clinics at Universities and Colleges across
