Paul
is currently principal tuba of the Victoria Symphony and has been living there
with his wife and three year old son since 2005. He can also be heard as part
of the Beacon Hill Brass and is on faculty at the Victoria Conservatory of
Music. Other recent activities have included two recital performances at the
University of Victoria, teaching in the Sooke school district, clinics for Long
and McQuade, and adjudicating for the Greater Victoria Music Festival. Prior to
moving to Victoria Paul was part of the well-known Foothills Brass Quintet
based in Calgary, Alberta with which he toured North America extensively. He
has performed across Canada and the US, given solo and orchestral performances
in much of Europe, and toured South Africa with the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic
as their principal tuba. Musical highlights include performing Bruckner IV in a
12th century Austrian Cathedral and performing Tubby the Tuba with
the Tanglewood orchestra and Gene Shalit narrating.
