My receiver is shutting down and/or running really hot?
Always make sure that there is not a single strand of bare wire touching another and/or any other metal parts. Check to ensure that this is the case on both the amplifier/receiver and/or the speakers. Any short-circuit will cause the receiver to shut down, overheat, and/or damage to the receiver and/or the speakers.

Can I use a 4 Ohm speaker set?
Please read the impedance rating carefully, if the receiver is rated for 6-8 Ohm, don't use any speaker with the impedance rating outside what's recommended.

Can I plug my TV AC plug to the extra outlet on the receiver?
Never plug anything that requires a lot of power to the additional power outlets at the back of the receivers. These items include, but are not limited to, TVs, projectors, microwave ovens and lawn mowers. Use it only for low-powered equipment such as DVD players, Turntables, Tuners, or CD changers.

I don't get surround sound (be it DTS, Dolby Digital, etc...)?
- Make sure the "Input Mode" is selected to "AUTO".
- Make sure that your software (movie, CD) is actually carrying surround-sound information.
- Make sure that your player is actually outputting the surround-sound information. This can be obtained only if your player is connected digitally using optical or coaxial digital cable. Check in the DVD user menu by going to audio-mode and make sure the digital output is set to "bitstream".

The dialogue on the movie I'm watching is too low, but the sound effects are too loud?
- Use "Night Listening" mode so the dynamic range is compressed making the difference in loudness smaller.
- As an option, you can also wear a pair of headphone and let our"Silent Cinema" kick in
- Or turn on the subtitle option so you can read the dialog and set the volume for the special-effect at the level that won't cause hearing damage or heart attack.
- Sit closer.

My preprogrammed remote does not work with my 'other equipment'?
- If your ‘other equipment’ was manufactured after the design-date of your receiver, it will be very unlikely that the supplied pre-programmed remote will recognize that ‘other equipment’.
- If your ‘other equipment’ was designed by a less-popular manufacturer, it will also be very unlikely that the supplied pre-programmed remote will recognize that ‘other equipment’.

So can I re-program my preprogrammed remote to recognize my ‘other equipment'?
The entire premise of a “pre-programmed remote” is that it cannot be re-programmed. If it could, we would have called it a “programmable remote”.

My XXX brand is more powerful than my Yamaha! How can that be?
Oh well, most companies tend to use PMPO whereas Yamaha uses RMS power rating.
PMPO (Peak Maximum Power Output) is very misleading because although it shows a very large and seemingly powerful amplification power, that amount of power is only reached for short periods of time during bursts of loud sound at a very high level of distortion.
RMS (Root Mean Square), on the other hand, is the honest way of representing the true capability of an amplifier/receiver. This is due to the fact that it represents the average sustained power put out by an amplifier/receiver.
An amplifier/receiver with RMS power of 100 Watts may have a PMPO of 800 Watts.
In short, RMS is the power you listen to, PMPO is the power you'll get when you're about to blow your amplifier to smithereens.
